MOKOPANE - Iron-ore and tin developer Bushveld Minerals is advancing the technical studies on its Mokopane project, with an aim of completing the scoping study by the first quarter of next year, CEO Fortune Mojapelo said on Tuesday.
According to Mining Weekly the Aim-listed junior, which is hoping to prove an one-billion ton resource at the iron-ore project in Limpopo, also planned to update its resource over the following months. To date, a resource of 633-million tons of magnetite has been defined.
Meanwhile, Bushveld Minerals is already considering its power supply options for the Mokopane project.
“One of the things we have been clear about in our project design is the optionality for own-power generation. Fortunately, the projects are situated in close proximity to the Waterberg coalfields and the Soutpansberg coalfields,"said Mojapelo.
“If we decide to generate our own power, we at least have these coal resources nearby. Considerations would not only be the cost of sourcing power from Eskom, but also considering the certainty of power supply. You need to look at a source that is guaranteed and economically feasible, we are not excluding renewables from our power mix,” Mojapelo said.
