Commendable police work and information given by the public led to the arrest of five suspects this week in connection with the armed robbery and hijacking at the Sasol garage in Onverwacht last Monday. The suspects appeared in the Lephalale Magistrates court on Monday, but the case was postponed untill 10 December.
According to warrant officer Frans Mokoena, the Lephalale police cluster formed a special task team made up of 10 police officers from different stations in the area to investigate serious crime. “It was this task team that managed to arrest the suspects when informants within the community heard the suspects speak of their involvement in the crime.”
He also confirmed that two of the suspects were employees of the garage and several of them are believed to be from Johannesburg. He told Northern News on Tuesday that altogether 11 people were involved in armed robbery and that more arrests will be made within the next few days.
