A young man who was suspected of stealing valuable items from the offices of Mogalakwena Municipality employees has been detained in the building on Tuesday.
Two Mogalakwena Municipal security officers, John Shiburi and Albert Madupo, detained a 27-year-old suspect in the building during lunch time.
The security officers said the suspect visits the municipality often when most of the municipal officials go for lunch. They have been monitoring him as he was registering false names and false ID numbers in the visitor’s registration book. The municipal employees have been complaining that valuable items like cell phones, laptops, purses and wallets have been stolen since October last year.
They  found the suspect hiding in the female bathrooms. “We asked if there is anyone in the toilet, but he kept quiet until we were forced to open the door. He said he did not notice the female sign on the door.”
Phineas Kekana, the head of security for the Municipality, says the suspect will not appear in the Mokopane Magistrate court as he was not charged.
He signed a declaration form agreeing to be accompanied by security officers whenever he visits the premises.
