A police officer from Witpoort appeared in the Lephalale Magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of theft and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to a spokesperson at the Witpoort police station, the officer was found in possession of stolen liquor and two unlicensed firearms at his house on Saturday.
It is suspected that the police officer was part of a group of six men who broke into a liquor store in Witpoort and stole liquor to the value of R15 000.
The case has been postponed until 8 October and all six suspects will remain in custody
