Vandals responsible for stink

The now somewhat notorious sewage pump station near Church Street had residents up in arms this week as raw sewage once again flowed down Hendrik Pistorius Street and onto Albert Street where informal traders and residents had to walk through the smelly sludge.
Only weeks after Northern News
reported that the municipality would, after months of delays, start with construction of the pump house to cover the pump it seems that vandals broke a mechanism that controls the levels of effluent. It is not clear what the motive for the vandalism could have been as nothing was stolen. 
According to DA councillor, Astrid
Basson who monitored the situation, the municipality’s department of sanitation were on the scene on Tuesday morning to repair the damage caused by vandals. “I spoke to the department who informed me that work on the pump house would start this week.” - Valerie Cilliers (valerie@noordnuus.co.za)
