More demands from SANCO

Confusion regarding the leadership of SANCO in Lephalale seems to be increasing after an apparent disagreement between two factions at last week’s march - both claim to be the legitimate leadership of the local SANCO branch.
The march, lead by SANCO’s Kenneth Manaka, showed their dissatisfaction with the mayor and municipality (see Blood flows at march, Northern News, 15 November). Another SANCO-group, who insists that they are a coalition of the ANC branches in Lephalale Sub-region, was led by Alpheus Thulare and
expressed their concern regarding prominent Lephalale businessman Justice Ledwaba’s dealings and also took issue with Joseph Machaba, a youth officer in the Lephalale Municipality.
They demanded the suspension of Joseph Machaba and alleged that he is working against the municipality and is using the municipality to negotiate business for his own personal agenda. “Machaba should be suspended while he is still under investigation,” said Thulare.
The Thulare group also wants Justice Ledwaba to be investigated by the public protector’s office as to how he acquired a farm apparently valued at R3 million, and for allegedly owning 15 houses in Lephalale.
Northern News spoke to Ledwaba who said that he is not surprised by the allegations made against him. He suggested that Thulare re-educate himself as it is common knowledge that a public protector cannot investigate a private matter. “I welcome anyone who would like to investigate how I run my business. I have never bought a farm worth R3 million and I certainly don’t own 15 houses”. - Tebogo Tlhako (tebogo@noordnuus.co.za)
