Government has once again launched the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children. This international campaign takes place from 25 November to 10 December.
According to Lephalale SAPS, spokesperson W.O. Frans Mokoena the SAPS will be having its own door to door campaign at Mamojelea park, the taxi rank at Shoprite, Marapong and Steenbokpan.
The Mokopane police will have a similar door-to-door campaign in Ext. 19, said police spokesperson Const. Irene Masingi.
Community members are encouraged to support the campaign by wearing a white ribbon during the 16-day period. The ribbon is a symbol of peace and symbolises the commitment of the person wearing it to never commit or condone violence against women and children.
Get involved by helping to plant a garden at a shelter, sponsor plastic tables and chairs for kids at a clinic or join an organisation as a counsellor, participating in the various 16 Days of Activism events and activities and also volunteering in support of NGOs and community groups who support abused women and children.
People who are abused can also get help at the Stop Gender-Based Violence Helpline 0800 150 150 and Childline 0800 055 555.
