The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo has accused the provincial roads and transport department of endangering road users by not maintaining Limpopo’s roads. In the last ten months, 2 072 accidents occurred in Limpopo leading to more than 450 fatalities, the DA said in a press statement this week.
“The festive season road death toll was massive this year. Government should be doing everything in its power to make roads safer,” the party said adding that many roads in the province are riddled with potholes. "We want the department to keep the approach of the festive season all year round by deploying more traffic officials on all the major roads. On top of that, government needs to start maintaining infrastructure properly." At the time of going to print the department had not responded to enquiries from Northern News on this matter.
