Robbers strike in broad daylight

MOKOPANE – A primary school teacher and teacher’s assistant escaped unharmed after four armed men held them at gunpoint, tied them up and stole their cell phones and several laptops from a school premises in Schoeman Street.
“There were no children at the school at the time of the incident and no one was harmed,” says Mokopane Destiny Academy principal Fred van der Merwe.
The suspects drove a green Corsa with a GP number plate and standard mags into the school premises at about 16:00 on Tuesday afternoon. “They were calm and spoke in quiet voices,” says one of the victims. “They told us that they were not going to hurt us.”
The suspects forced the victims to lie down in one of the offices and proceeded to search the premises for laptops. They started to disconnect a flatscreen monitor when the landline rang and they abandoned their efforts and excited the building.
The victims managed to untie themselves and contacted Van der Merwe and the police.
The police is investigating the incident.
