Mokopane Destiny Academy's (MDA) Market Day at the Crossing Mall turned out to be more than just another entrepreneurial exercise for learners as transactions on sweet treats, hand crafts, face painting and chess games went beyond the mere exchange of money. Members of the buying public lingered around the 'market' much longer than planned simply to enjoy the warm kindness of the MDA team.

Parents and teachers rolled up their sleeves to help learners serve the shopping public of Mogalakwena. They painted friendly little faces, taught basic craft skills, sold homemade toys and delicious brownies and fudge and also engaged the brave and strategically minded members of the community on the chess boards.

"I wish it was like this every day," said one elderly gentlemen from Mahwelereng as he gestured to people from all ages and backgrounds playing chess while shoppers stopped to watch and venture opinions on what the next move should be.

"It was a joy to see our co-operative team of teachers and inspired parents, together with their children interact with the community. They were all true ambassadors for MDA and the market day turned into a marketing success," says the school's principle Fred van der Merwe.

The day has sparked a lot of interest from the community and teachers are looking forward to showcasing all the school has to offer to interested parents and learners on Friday 22 September.
