MaMojela park still without services

LEPHALALE - Residents of MaMojela Park are fed-up with the lack of services to the informal settlement situated just outside Lephalale. The land, which belongs to the department of Public Works, houses more than 2000 people and the settlement is growing fast due to its proximity to town. Residents live in make-shift tin houses with no electricity.

More strikes predicted for Medupi

LEPHALALE - Sporadic protests this week at the Medupi power station site outside Lephalale could be an indication of what lies ahead for contractors at the site. The site was once again evacuated on Monday when protesters started throwing stones. Work resumed later that day.

Students had to choose a party which they thought would bring change to their lives and the country as a whole, mainly on challenges that the youth are facing such as education and unemployment.

‘n Kultuurryke week vir die Rassies

Daar is voorgedra, gesing, gedans en geredeneer hierdie week by Laer- skool Ellisras se jaarlikse Kunstefees. Skole wat deelgeneem het was Laerskool Ellisras, Sedibeng, Lephalale Primary, Laerskool Bosveld Primary, Hardekool Akademie, Skuinskloof Laerskool en Diteko Primary. Die fees wat Woensdag klaargemaak het was weereens ‘n groot sukses en ‘n skouspel van Lephalale skoliere se talent. Die onderskeie skole het met die fees die geleentheid gehad om onder andere met hulle revue groepe, spreekkore en kulturele dansgroepe te spog. Daar was ook inskrywings in die beelde kunste, poësie en skryfkuns. Laerskool Ellisras se trompoppies het ook gesorg vir ‘n prag vertoning.

Cattle disrupt morning traffic in town

On Monday morning the the local SPCA was called in to assist the Mokopane traffic department in chasing back cattle that went astray over the weekend. “The traffic department gave us a call to assist them when they found the cattle causing chaos in the streets,” said Hetta Willemse from the SPCA. Twenty-eight of the thirty cattle that broke out of their encampment were found and returned to their rightful owner. Two were still missing at the time of going to print. - Botshelo Letlabola

Mental health awareness

Last Thursday, the Voortrekker Hospital hosted a mental health campaign to create awareness and help fight the stigma attached to mental health patients. “People look at mental health patients as if they are carrying a disease that can be passed on by them looking at- or even touching you,” said Masaba Tjikana, a nurse at the hospital.

Teen verkeersmotor vas sonder lisensie!

Die eienaar van dié bakkie het Woensdagoggend teen ‘n verkeersmotor gebots nadat hy nie behoorlik sy draai kon kry nie. Die ongeluk het op die hoek van Thabo Mbeki- en Geyserstraat voor Hoërskool Piet Potgieter plaasgevind en die verkeersmanne en Polisie was blitsig op die toneel. Die straat is dadelik afgesper om die nodige afmetings en verklarings te neem. Gelukkig is niemand beseer nie. Na verneem word het die bestuurder van die bakkie nie ‘n bestuurslisensie nie en is hy aangekla vir roekelose en nalatige bestuur.
