The department of sport, art and culture in collaboration with the social development and health departments presented a ‘golden games’ event for pensioners in Mahwelereng. This campaign is aimed at encouraging healthy living for the elderly.
The golden games were established in 2006 and the Mahwelereng pensioners association joined in 2012. Some of the games they play include ball relay, duck- and- wall, passing the ball, rugby throw, 100m, 200m and more. The group consists of 43 members with the oldest player being 77-years-old. The Mahwelereng pensioners participated in the provincial games in Polokwane where they won in the Ball relay. They will represent Limpopo in the national games in Mpumalanga this month. These dedicated players practice twice a week and say that the activities keep them full of life. - Itumeleng Lekganyane
