Gymnasts are tough!

MOKOPANE – With the Limpopo championships around the corner, the Mokopane Gymnastics Academy (MGA) are practicing very hard. In preparation, the gymnasts entered into two friendly competitions during the past two weeks to see if they’re ready.
The first competition was the Eldo Invitational Competition which was held at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne Park in Pretoria on 24 July. The second competition was the Zani’s Powerade invitational at the Zani’s Gymnastics Academy in Polokowane. The Zani’s competition was an all-Limpopo Competition with 260 competitors from clubs in Polokwane, Mokopane, Marble Hall, Hoedspruit, Tzaneen, Louis Trichardt, Swartwater and Phalaborwa. MGA performed well.
Eldo Invitational results:
In the Level 2 women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG) section Jennezee Vermeulen finished with a gold average, while Miqayla Venter achieved silver and Angelique Nelson finished with a bronze. The Level 3 WAG saw Chené Goosen and Lungile Mahlangu each achieve silver. In the Level 4 WAG section, Lesedi Mashishi achieved a gold average, while Melody Raats and Jodi Knight finished with  silver. The Level 5 WAG included Lize Janse van Rensburg and Shani Dreyer, both achieved bronze.
The Level 1 men’s artistic gymnasts (MAG) saw Keanu Potgieter achieve gold, Basson Wolmarans finishing with a silver average and Pero Boshoff finished with bronze. In the Level 2 MAG section Tyron Jordaan and Ruan Goosen achieved a silver average each and Hannes Raats finished with a bronze. The Level 4 MAG section saw Josua van der Merwe and Luan du Plessis achievegold and Marnus Ruytenberg and Jan van der Baan took home bronze. The Level 5 MAG consisted of Juandré Ruytenberg with a gold average, while Johan Strauss and Louis Boshoff finished with silver. Samuel van der Merwe represented Level 6 and finished with a gold average.
Zani’s Powerade competitiors:
WAG Level 2: Miqayla Venter - 3rd on Vault, 2nd on Beam, Jennezee Vermeulen - 3rd on Floor and Angelique Nelson. WAG Level 3: Chené Goosen - 2nd on Floor, 1st on Vault, 2nd on Bars (1st overall), Jessica Essakow - 1st on Floor, 3rd on Vault, 1st on Beam (3rd overall), Lungile Mahlangu - 3rd on Floor, 2nd on Beam (4th overall).
MAG Level 1: Keanu Potgieter, Basson Wolmarans, Gerard Kruger, Keo Mathosa and Pero Boshoff  competed. The participants for MAG Level 2 included Hannes Raats, Amicus de Beer, Tyron Jordaan and Ruan Goosen.
