MAHWELERENG – Talent, discipline and dedication are but three of the trump cards held by the Mogalakwena Killer Aces Volleyball Club in Mahwelereng. They also have a first class coach in William Mathatho and passionate support from Roshaan van Voegt, a 38-year-old mother of two with a heart for the community.
Since Mathatho took over the coaching, he renamed the club and became the driving force behind a team that is now flourishing and growing from strength to strength. There are roughly 46 active club members of which the youngest is only 8-years-old. Both junior and senior players practice six days a week at a facility at the Mahwelereng sports stadium.
“We now only need sponsorships to take us to the next level. The club is in dire need of equipment, sportswear and for someone out there to see our potential,” says Mathatho. Another big challenge for the club is transport to and from leagues and tournaments.
Van Voegt is working hard to promote the club’s strengths in an effort to get sponsors on board. “We will be so grateful, especially if someone can reach out to us in time for our first round at the Limpopo Volleyball Association (LVA) tournament on 2 April.”
Van Voegt says she is teaching members to give before expecting to receive. “We
cannot expect help from others without putting in effort ourselves,” she explains. That is why the club members hold regular fundraising events to keep their club going
