On 18 July 2017, employees from DebtSafeand Zeeva (debt counselling programs) contributed their first joint donation (Mokopane and Pretoria offices) for the group’s Extra Mile Project. The ‘Charity Starts at Home’ event took place in the form of a Penny Drive. The Extra Mile project is a project that assists fellow employees in need and that is also run anonymously.

DebtSafe’s MD Hein du Plessis, icked the morning off with a powerful message to free and serve others: #ActionAgainstPoverty #MandelaDay.

Du Plessis said just like Madiba pitched up for events to surprise others (where he was not invited), they have to pitch up and create change. Even the slightest and smallest action can have a big impact around them… #MandelaDay fits perfectly with this month’s value and theme: COMPASSION…

The Penny Drive was the first step to not only contributing to their employees’ needs for 67 minutes, but also for a long-term and sustainable period. The team is looking forward to seeing the project grow.

The total amount raised on #MandelaDay: R4170.

DebtSafe has taken up the challenge and wants to encourage other organisations to continue to make every day a Mandela Day.
