HOEDSPRUIT - On July 25 at 02h45 a guard from Protrack Anti Poaching Unit who was on duty on Waterbuck farm in Thornybush Game Reserve was dragged out of a boma while he was asleep and killed by two male lions.
Wildy Machaba (22) and another guard were stationed at the boma for the night.
According to Vincent Barkas, owner of Protrack, the other guard was awakened by Wildy’s screams but when he looked up he only saw Wildy’s empty sleeping bag, his rifle and radio.
He called for help immediately, but it was too late.
According to Nick Griffin, CEO for the Thornybush Collection, both wardens of Thornybush are currently hunting the two lions in question as they need to be destroyed.
