The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) branch in Lephalale visited the Marapong SAVF One Stop Centre last Wednesday to talk to senior citizens.
During October CANSA volunteers will be hosting CANSA Cuppa’s to collect money for the organisation. The Marapong Cuppa was sponsored by the local DA-branch, who provided the senior citizens with a treat of cakes and off course, a ‘cuppa’ tea.
“It is very important that the correct information is available in the community. It is a case of ‘knowledge is power’ when it comes to preventing cancer,” said DA councillor Astrid Basson.
The Lephalale CANSA-branch was represented by the chairperson Marika van Zyl and CANSA community mobiliser, Riana Bronkhorst. Marika spoke about what cancer is and how it affects the body. The good news is, that a large percentage of cancers can be prevented with a change in lifestyle choices and by applying knowledge of the prevention of different types of cancer.
“We will be visiting the senior citizens very soon to ensure that they are empowered by the knowledge that cancer can be beaten,” says Riana. Marika and Riana can be contacted on 082 824 6286 and 082 663 5719.
