The construction of Exxaro’s Waterberg Distribution Centre was announced at a sod turning ceremony held on site, close to the Grootegeluk mine on the Stockpoort road, on Wednesday. The warehouse will eventually be 11 909m2. The centre which will also include several offices will be fully operational by the end of August 2013.
Operations at the centre will make distribution much easier especially for new projects such as the planned Thaba Metsi mine. “Stock and parts are currently stored at the Grootegeluk mine, but the new warehouse will be strategically situated to keep unnecessary vehicles and feet off the GG mine premises and allow easy distribution to other projects,” explained Hein Schönfeldt, Exxaro’s regional supply chain manager.
Virtual Consulting and Barloworld Logistics were responsible for the design of the warehouse and Stefanutti and Stocks is the main contractor on site. The site is designed in such a way as to allow for future expansions.
