Lephalale police, the traffic department and councilors of the Lephalale municipality joined forces last Thursday in a roadblock operation on Thabo Mbeki Drive. The aim of the exercise was to seek out undocumented foreigners and those residents who employ them illegally.
According to Captian Johan Grundlingh employers need to know that if they are caught they will be taken to court that same day. “Fines range from R1500 per undocumented person in your employment,” he warned. A total of 25 undocumented citizens were taken into custody on Thursday. The Mayor of Lephalale, Jack Maeko and several councilors were also at the roadblock to give police and traffic department their support.
