Limpopo pass rate up…but Waterberg lags behind

Despite the textbook debacle and a lack of funds at several district departments, Limpopo’s pass rate rose from 63.9% to 66.9% for 2012.
Altogether 77 360 Limpopo pupils wrote the Grade 12 exams, of which 51 745 passed. The number of university exemptions numbered 15 324.
According to the Limpopo department of education, the top performing district was Vhembe with a 76.8% matric pass rate, followed by Capricorn with 66% and Mopani with 63.2%. Sekhukhune came fourth with 63% and Waterberg came last with 60.1%.
In the Waterberg district, High School Warmbad and Waterberg High School achieved a 100% pass rate.
High School Piet Potgieter achieved 91,07% with 69 of the 168 learners awarded with university exemption.
Hans Strydom in Mookgophong had a pass rate of 90, 3% with 32 of the 62 learners who achieved university exemption.
In Lephalale, Ellisras High School achieved a pass rate of 92,76% with 60 of the 153 learners who got university exemption.
In Thabazimbi, High School Frikkie Meyer achieved a pass rate of 94,25% with 87 learners of their 175 getting university exemption.
