The decision on whether to disband the ANC Limpopo leadership will be taken next month, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe told reporters at a press conference held at The Ranch near Mokopane on Monday.
He said the provincial leadership was going to be investigated. Provincial deployments would be probed as well as allegations of purging supporters of President Jacob Zuma, he said.
There was dissatisfaction over the removal of some people seen to be backing Zuma, during the lobbying before the African National Congress’ Mangaung conference.
Last year Northern News reported on the removal of Lephalale mayor, Johanna Mojela, and her being replaced as mayor by Jack Maeko, a close ally of Limpopo premier Cassele Mathale.
In Mokopane mayor Esther Mothibi was also fired from her position, but she was replaced by Andries Mashemaite, who like Mothibi, was said to be from the Zuma camp.
“We will interrogate whether the changes were genuine, based on performance, or were factional,” Mantashe said.
He was talking after a two-day meeting between the ANC’s national working committee (NWC) and the provincial executive committee (PEC) in Polokwane.
