Referring to bi-elections to be held in Sekhukhuni, Mopani, Vhembe and Waterberg next month, the ANC this week issued a press statement saying it will prepare the electorate for a decisive victory for the party.
“Victory is imperative if the gains of the liberation struggle are to be maintained,” the statement reads.
“We have deployed national, provincial, regional and zonal leadership to explain our position to our people,” the statement continues. This follows dismal performances by the ANC in bi-elections since the last municipal elections.
In Mokopane the DA managed to snatch the RDP ward from the ANC.
“All the electorates should ensure that they do away with unprogressive formations and independent candidates because they are locally grounded to further foreign agenda of reversing the gains of the liberation struggle.
“The ANC remains the only party that has the welfare of the people at heart alongside traditional leaders, who have been of great value to the ANC, and their support is greatly appreciated. They played a major role in the liberation struggle which saw us liberating this country,” the press
release stated.
In the Mokopane area, however, there has been a lot of discontent as the communities allege that certain traditional leaders have enriched themselves at the expense of their people by condoning mining companies to drill and prospect in exchange for money.
Even some of the ANC councillors came under fire for allegedly allowing the mining companies to trample citizens’ rights leading to protest marches last year.
