Shaping better futures for learners

Compass Academy of Learning in co-operation with LectorSA and Bright Star recently held a Development Week for Grade 9 learners at the RET Centre in Mokopane. The learners were sponsored to the amount of R3500 each, which enabled them to attend the Destiny Week.
According to Daleen Janse van Rensburg from LectorSA they target Grade 9 learners and plan to progress them into the JrTukkie project at the University of Pretoria during their Grade 10 academic year.
During the week - hosted by Destiny Alive Church – the 22 learners from 11 schools in the Mogalakwena area work on Lab-on-line, a cloud hosted reading solution developed by LectorSA.
LectorSA is a result of collaborated research and development by selected countries over 40 years. Through on-going research better and more efficient ways to improve reading in today’s environment have been discovered and developed.
Lab-on-line is based on 30 years’ research and is proven to have increased reading skills development at the University of Pretoria’s JrTukkie Week.
Bright Star aims to develop personal and relationship skills to aid people to live their lives excellently and to be more effective leaders. The program is widely welcomed by leaders as a development tool for current and future generations.
At the completion of the Bright Star Course the learners were able to:
• Take responsibility for their decisions in life;
• Be aware of their own values and how it influences their decisions and life;
• Decide on their self-worth and self-respect;
• Know how to prioritize action plans to achieve their life-purpose;
• Understand different behavioural styles;
• Draw on methods to control their emotions;
• Communicate for understanding;
• Keep arguments out of disagreements;
• Establish personal boundaries;
• Do strategic planning;
• Be good role models;
• Understand team dynamics and identify where they are currently in the team;
• Use skills to motivate others;
