A 64-year-old woman from a village outside Mokopane, Ana Sasa, was accidentally electricuted by loose wires from an Eskom transformer which exploded last Monday night.
Loose wires from the transformer had fallen on the fence of her property and when she tried to open the gate on her way to collect her pension she got electricuted. The fence was full of electricity from the loose wires.
Sasa was rushed to the local clinic where she was declared dead.
During her funeral service, Mogalakwena mayor, Thlalife Mashamaite said it was with deep sadness that the community burried Anna. “She was a freedom fighter, served in the ANC structures and always wanted development at our municipality at large, not for her village alone.”
“She died for one of the services she fought for (electricity),” he added.
Mashamaite lashed out as Eskom for failing to address complaints by another Mogalakwena councillor over the transformer's position in relation to Sasa's home.
“Eskom should take responsibility on the death of Anna Sasa,” Mashamaite signed concluded.
