Contractors at the Medupi Powerstation Project will have to all pay their workers and management an agreed amount of R2000 and for 90 hours before May 17.
This follows a resolution between trade unions and Eskom on a list of grievances that have been at the core of strike action at the project for the past five months.
Project bonuses lost from the inception of the Medupi project labour agreement (PLA) in 2009 to April 2013 will also be paid to
employees.
These resolutions were communicated to trade union delegates at a a mass meeting last Tuesday at the Mogol club grounds. A document containing Eskom’s final response to a list of nine grievances raised by unions, was handed out to shop stewards who in turn communicated the resolutions to workers.
While some of the unions’ demands were met, Eskom remained firm on the ‘no-work-no-pay’ rule, which will remain as it is.
