POLOKWANE – A 36-year old Congolese citizen appeared in the Musina Magistrates’ Court on Monday after he was found smuggling cocaine worth more than R18-million through the Beit Bridge Border Post into South
Africa.
The drugs were discovered during a routine search of tra-veller’s bags. A warrant officer searching the bag of the suspect found spools with yarn inside the bag and found them to be exceptionally heavy.
The help of the police’s K9 Unit was called in and the sniffer dog reacted positively. The yarns were rolled from the rollers and a white substance inside plastic bags was removed. The cocaine found weighed a total of 10,8kgs with an estimated value of
R12 000 000.
Further inspection on the bag revealed a false compartment in which more cocaine was confiscated. It weighed a total of 5,2kg with an estimated value of
R6, 4-million.
