It was a joyful day for Mmapula Lefwane when she became the owner of house no 3946 in extention 4 in Marapong in 2007. The joy, however, was short lived when the RDP house was mistakenly marked as house no 3895.
The mistake resulted in a dispute between Lefwane and Lydia Majadibodu. Both have documents to say that they own RDP houses.
Lefwane owns house 3946 and Majadibodu house 3895 – the same house. Lefwane was forced off her
property this week and her belongings was thrown out on the street. She claims that Majadibodu is renting the house out to contractors while she [Lefwane] is forced to live with relatives.
Lefwane has been to the housing department of the Lephalale municipality several times, but officials there are reluctant to help her.
In a letter to municipal manager, Bob Naidoo, she writes: “I have been staying in my shack for a long time while your
officials allowed an illegal occupier of my house to make money out of it. The lady has also built a spaza shop to add [to] her income, benefiting from my house.”
Lefwana has since opened a case at the Lephalale police station and demands action from the municipality by 22 June.
DA councilor, Stephen Manamela, told Northern News that a map of Ext 4 clearly indicates that the house in dispute belongs to Mapula Lefwane.
He added that the Lephalale municipal manager acknow-ledged in a letter to Lefwane’s lawyer, that the house was mistakenly allocated to Majadibodu.
Naidoo referred Northern News to the Social Services  manager at the Lephalale Municipality, Lesibana Thobane, who at the time of going to print failed to respond.
