Residents in Park Street, Mokopane, are livid with the municipality over a pipe that burst on Saturday and left them without water till late Sunday morning.
An angry resident told the Northern News she and her family could not bath and prepare for church on Sunday. Pieter Maree, a Park Street resident said that according to his records this is the seventh time in 18 months that faulty pipes saw the area without water. Luckily he has a water tank now.
On Monday morning the people of Park Street again found themselves without water due to another burst in the pipeline further down the street.
“I woke up to get the kids ready for school, but when I opened the tap there was no water,” said Debra Magaela, a housekeeper in Park Street. The pipes were restored and the water came back at about noon.
Then the pipe that was repaired on Sunday, burst again in the early hours of Tuesday morning and the contractor was called back to the scene. “We had to shut down the water on our arrival, because water was spilling everywhere,” said one of the workers who was first at the scene.
The residents feel the pipes were not repaired properly in the first place and that the municipality could have at least sent a water truck to supply them with water.
“We thought a water truck would be made available for us as I saw one pass by, only to realise that it was going to the township,” said Eva Mantloane.
The Municipal head of communication Malesela Selokela, personally went to see the problem area this week.
He said new pipes had now been installed and an internal investigation was launched to determine the cause of the frequent bursting of the Park Street pipes.
