The Democratic Alliance accused education MEC, Dickson Masemola, of putting politics before delivery after a group of 200 young DA members who went to Kgabo High School in Moletjie, Polokwane, on Youth Day were locked out.
The party and its members planned to carry out reparations to leaky roofs and faulty toilets at Kgabo High School. “We cannot expect our children to receive proper education in these circumstances.” said the DA youth leader Mbali Ntluli.
The DA claims Masemola communicated with the school to make sure the party was barred from the premises.
According to the DA the school parents, teachers and governing body were happy to welcome them but the MEC told the school superintendent in the area not to let them in.
In a statement released by Pat Kgomo, spokesperson of the MEC, he claims that the allegations brought forward by the DA were lies: “the department reiterates that neither the SGB of the school nor the department received a written request from the DA and that the MEC never communicated with any SGB member nor any departmental official on this matter.”
The Northern News has a copy of a letter dated June 13, which the DA sent to Jackson Thamaga the HOD of Education in Limpopo to notify him of their intent. At the time of going to print the Northern News could not get Thamaga to confirm.
