Education MEC, Dickson Masemola, unveiled Mokopane South Primary school to the community on Thursday. Parents, teachers and the school governing body joined in celebrating the official launch in extension 14.
It is one of the ‘state-of-the-art’ schools that are being launched nationwide. The MEC said these new schools will be on the same level as model C schools.
An annonymous source from the school later told the Northern News that it was all lies. “The school is being run without the necessary staff, people are being asked to volunteer to keep the school running”
And while the MEC spoke of contractors who are employed to maintain the grounds, Mattews Chokwe of the school governing body implored the municipality to help with maintenance around the school as the premises is surrounded by bushes. “There are small kids travelling to the school each day, and these surroundings aren’t safe,” he said.
Mokopane South Primary hosts 1107 pupils at the moment. And despite all the challenges it faces,
Phuti Mapinga, chairperson of Professional Educators Union said: “The department did a stellar job in implementing this project.”
