The provincial task team (PTT) is setting its sights on Lephalale and has reportedly said that they “were on their way to Lephalale to deal with greedy Politians and managers.” This is according to a press release sent out this week by the Lephalale Business Forum and Chamber of Commerce.
Wayne Derksen, president of the Lephalale Chamber of Commerce, Justice Ledwaba Chairman of Lephalale Business Forum and Fanie Modimolle, local ANC election team co-ordinator attended a breakfast meeting hosted by the PTT and attended by the Minister from the Presidency, Collins Chabane in Polokwane last Friday.
Ledwaba used the platform to speak out against what he calls “the privatization of the local municipality”. He addressed the PTT with concerns also relating to the employment of foreigners by big corporate companies and the lack of skills transfer for the youth of Lephalale.
Derksen used the opportunity to call for an amendment to legislation to ensure that local business benefit in the procurement of contracts. “If a local business does not comply with the requirements of a specific contract, then a non-local business should be called in to partner or JV with local business to do the job.”
According to the press release the meeting set a platform for further engagement between business and government in the near future. Spokesperson for the PTT, Sello Lediga, could not be reached for comment.
