A cleaner at the Medupi Power Station Project in Lephalale was arrested last week Thursday after he was found in possession of explosives.
According to information received, the 48-year-old man alleges that he found blasting cartridges inside the premises earlier in June and according to him he put away the pieces in a container in a shed and forgot about it until he told his supervisor about it just before he was arrested on Wednesday.
The Police were called in and he was in possession of blasting cartridges, a five meter long detonating cord, a detonator and a detonating shock tube. These components were taken by members of the Bomb Disposal Unit for further investigation.
The origin of the cartridges is being investigated. The suspect was released on R500.00 bail after he appeared in court on Monday, on a charge of possession of unlicensed explosives. He is set to appear again on the 25th of this month.
