Four people died when a silver BMW collided with a white Toyota bakkie, which was entering the Medupi facilities at Portion 7, in Onverwacht on Monday.
The accident happened on the corner of Ngoako Ramatlhodi Road and Boerboon Street next to Lephalale primary school. Several people sustained serious injuries. Two of them died on the scene, while another two later died in hospital.
Police reports shows that - after the initial collision - the Toyota hit some workers of Murray and Roberts who were waiting on the road side to board a bus. According to witnesses at the scene the driver of the BMW ran from the scene but was later taken to the police station.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Lephalale police station against the drivers. - Tebogo Tlhako (tebogo@noordnuus.co.za)
