Have you ever imagined that you would see a face you know from Lephalale on TV? Hellen Motsuki, a Marapong resident, will soon be seen on the popular SABC1 soap, Generations!
“I have secured the role of Nadia, the editor of Yona Yethu Magazine in Generations,” Motsuki, who will be on screen in November, explains. “Nadia is a typical office girl, who just loves her job.”
Motsuki who joined the generations cast in 2010 said that the experience has been incredible. “To be part of such a big production is wonderful and I thank God for the opportunity to be part of the award winning soap.”
Motsuki, who now lives in Johannesburg, is an alumnus of Nelsons-
kop Primary, and Tiello and Phegelelo Secondary School in Marapong. She says that growing up in Lephalale was fun and safe and she remembers when she was in primary school, they used to swim almost every day after school.
Besides being an actress, Motsuki also does motivational speaking. She talks at schools, universities, conferences and seminars. She is a professional counsellor. “I couldn’t study drama or the arts because my mother didn’t approve, so I studied public management at TUT and graduated in project management and counselling. I attended acting classes and found myself working as an acting coach to sharpen my skills.”
“Acting has always been my passion, but I have to say it is not an easy industry to crack as I got a lot of discouragement from people,” she explains. “I did not listen to them and I followed my dream – today I’m living my dream. I’m doing what I love, telling a story through acting.”
Hellen said that she loved hanging out at Mogol club when she lived in Lephalale, but now that she is married, nothing gives her greater pleasure than spending time with her family. “Spending quality time with my husband is my inner joy. I also love travelling and gospel music.”
Motsuki added that Lephalale has more talent that only need to be recognised locally and that she wishes there would be more activities that would help young people to discover their own talent. “The youngsters from Lephalale who wants to join the acting world must work hard and never give up on their dreams, no matter how hard it can be.” - Tebogo Tlhako (tebogo@noordnuus.co.za
