This is another feather in the cap of the municipality that has received unqualified audit reports for the past three years and was recently named as one of the five most financially stable municipalities in the country.
The municipality received a R3.5 million cash prize for winning the greenest municipality award, which according to municipal manager William Kekana, will be channelled to other green projects.
“Everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being.
"Our environment should always be protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation, promote conservation and secure ecologically sustainable development,” he said.
"Winning twice in a row while competing with municipalities like Thulamela, Polokwane, Ephraim Mogale and Greater Tzaneen shows that we are heading in the right direction and that our passion is green,” added community services manager, Merrima Molala.
