The Mokopane Gymnastics Club is proud to announce that coaches Richard and Marinda Marshall are now qualified and registered to coach internationally following the completion of their Acrobatics Academy training in December.
South Africa hosted a Level 1 FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics Academy in Pretoria (RSA) in December - the 160th overall Academy and the 40th held on the African Continent. The Acrobatics Academy was the best attended yet with 29 coaches from four countries of southern Africa – Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. In addition, 28 coaches from South Africa and Nigeria attended the MAG-WAG Academy.
South Africa is still the only country with a license to teach FIG L1 and L2 Academies for Artistic Gymnastics and has now done so on eight occasions. The course leader was Lourenço França of Portugal who is head coach of the Portugal National Team, a Ph.D. student in biomechanics and has recently been named by the Portugal Gymnastics Federation as Coach of the Year across all disciplines. He taught all of the practical lectures with fellow Portuguese expert Vanda Videira. Louis Fourie and Derick Scholtz, both of South Africa shared the theory lectures and also served as course leaders and technical experts for the overlapping Artistic Academy along with Louise Bamber of South Africa. All three are the main experts for the licensed Academies.
MGC, situated on the corner of Retief and Geyser streets in Mokopane, is now able to offer this professional coaching opportunity to Mokopane/ Potgietersrus and the surrounding area. Richard and Marinda coach at MGC on Mondays to Thursdays from 14:00 – 18:00. MGC presents classes in Rhythmic, Girls artistic, Boys artistic, Funastics (for beginners from 3 years old), and Tumbling and Adult fitness classes.
MGC will also present training for General Sports Leaders and Coach/ Gymnast Development Camps during the year. You can contact them on 079 217 8410 for more information.
