Limpopo premier candidate, Langa Bodlani, DA provincial leader, Jacques Smalle (MP) and DA Limpopo legislature caucus leader, Desiree van der Walt (MPL) visited Lephalale last Thursday to participate in a dialogue with Young Professionals about various topics affecting South Africa’s political landscape.
The dialogue was the DA’s initiative to connect with young professionals who are committed to bring about change in South Africa especially in Limpopo. The event was hosted by local DA Councillor Stephen Manamela and the DA Lephalale team.
The DA’s leadership exchanged ideas and interacted with participants who were eager to throw pressing questions about DA policy their way.
Amongst issues discussed were BEE, land reform and corruption. Some of the participant wanted to know whether the DA proposes an all out capitalist state. In response Bodlani said that the DA does not believe in a laissez-faire type of economy, but would rather work toward a free market economy where there is equal opportunity and enough policy stability to boost investor confidence.
“Investors are nervous to invest in South Africa because over the past few months several bills were amended in parliament. Investors need to be assured that our policies promote economic growth, stability and sustainability.”
On the topic of BEE, Bodlani said that the DA supports redress.
“We believe in the upliftment of previously disadvantaged communities, but we do not believe in a quota system as purported by the ANC. As a young professional black person I want to know that I got the job because of merit. We believe that if we focus on education and providing opportunities for young black South Africans, they will soon be in top positions in companies because of the academic excellence they showed and because of merit. Education is the key. We need textbooks delivered on time and schools that offer the best education
possible.
