The Lephalale Development Forum Coordinator, Jacques Snyman has called on organisations and businesses in Lephalale to refrain from using the R33 (New Vaalwater road).
In a letter he stated: “Please take note that the R33 between Vaalwater and Lehalale is not suitable for use by any heavy vehicles. Please kindly request all heavy vehicles that deliver services to your orga-nisation to refrain from using the R33. The current status of the R33 is that the road was completely washed away and through committed effort by the local communities and a number of stakeholders in the area, a temporary concrete pipe supported bypass road has been constructed for use by light passenger vehicles only. The purpose of the temporary bypass is to give access from both sides of the damaged road to the residents in the area but due to some heavy vehicles now using this bypass, it is being destroyed.”
Snyman added that although signs at the turn-off from Vaalwater indicate that the road is closed, drivers of heavy vehicles often choose to ignore them.
“Additional signs will be erected by the Municiaplity indicating that the road is not fit for use by heavy vehicles.”
Companies are asked to request all heavy vehicles to use the Thabazimbi road from Vaalwater to Lephalale until the R33 is repaired.
