Members of the Mogalakwena sub region have called on the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) to look into alleged irregularities on both subregional and provincial level that led to the expulsion of 22 Mogalakwena councillors.
In a strong worded statement issued this week, the Mogalakwena sub-region secretary, Joe Mojela, also called on the NEC to investigate the allegations contained in a forensic audit report that details expenditure of municipal funds by former mayor, Thlalefi Mashemaite and some of his associates.
The disgruntled ANC members of the Mogalakwena region also demand the South African Police Services to expedite their investigation into the brutal killing of their former fellow committee member and branch secretary of Rufus Seakamela, Madimatja Piet Pale.
The press statement follows a decision by the Limpopo provincial executive committee (PEC) to enforce the expulsion of the 22 councillors in Mogalakwena municipality. These councillors are said to have brought the party into disrepute by not siding with former mayor Mashemaite and his co-accused in their drive to sack municipal manager, William Kekana. These councillors also refused to support acceptance of an attempt to place the municipality under provincial administration.
“It is our view that the situation in Mogalakwena municipality is all about looting of resources by certain group in the leadership both in the region and the province and has nothing to do with maladministration,” the statement by Mojela read.
The sub-region warns that should the PEC continue with its “reckless attempts” and “unjust actions” in Mogalakwena, the party might be faced with serious problems in the coming local government elections not only in the sub-region but the entire Waterberg, mainly because it will be seen as an ANC that protects corruption.
