Limpopo police is offering an award of R100 000 for anyone who can assist them in the arrest and conviction of community leader Madimetja Piet Pale’s killers. Pale was gunned down on 28 June less than 500m from his home in Mahwelereng.
According to the Mogalakwena Residents Association (MRA), Pale left his house after receiving a phone call. He was in his car when an unknown suspect approached and shot him through the window. He apparently tried to flee, but having sustained several gunshot wounds, he lost control over his car, which overturned only 400m from where he was shot. He died on the scene.
In a statement to the press, MRA spokeperson, Thintha Mokhonoana, said that the MRA welcomed the reward by the Police  and the establishment of a special task team. “We have always been clear that this was a political assassination by those who are implicated in corrupt activities in [the] Mogalakwena municipality because our chairperson was leading our movement in order to uncover corrupt activities at the time of his death.”
The MRA urged the provincial chairman of the ANC, Stan Mathabatha, to intervene in order to “implement and execute the recommendations of the KPMG forensic report.”
The press release states that despite the fact that Mathabatha publicly declared that he would intervene and resolve the KPMG issues, nothing has happened.
“We have always called from calmness in our community, precisely because we are convinced we still have reliable and committed men and wo-
men in SAPS who will treat this as a matter of outmost importance,” the MRA said. “We call on the community to assist the police with information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.”
