Last week the manager for development and planning at the Lephalale municipality, Edith Tukakgomo, met with members of the Fire By Force Ministries to address complaints by the public regarding the noise emanating from the tent the church is using as a temporary facility in Bloukweek Street in Onverwacht.
The church has submitted plans to the municipality to start building its permanent structure and hopes for completion by November. The new building will have to comply with strict sound regulations as residents in the area have complained that the noise levels during church sermons which go on day and night are unacceptably high.
Astrid Basson, chairperson of the mayoral planning committee, attended the meeting and explained to church representatives that the residents complained about the hours at which the church is having its services.
A compromise was reached at the mee-ting that the church will only have sermons from Mondays to Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:00, Fridays from 18:00 to 20:00, (no sermons will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays) and on Sundays they will finish by 13:00. No services will be going on through the night anymore.
The church also promised to employ a person to monitor the parking and to ensure that congregation members do not park in the road or on adjacent properties.
The situation will be monitored by the municipality and the residents are also asked to be patient until the church building is completed.
Anyone experiencing any problems in the future are requested to contact Astrid Basson on cel:082 822 9027.
