The South African Chefs Association together with the National Depart of Tourism held a graduation ceremony on the 22nd of September 2014, at The Park Hotel in Mokopane.
Waterberg TVET College had 19 students who took part in the 2012 National Youth Chefs Programme and all of them were awarded with Certificates and Diplomas after completion of the programme. Through hard work and determination from both learners and lecturers, students managed to produce five distinctions and nine merits.
The National Department of Tourism project manager, Nomvula Mavuso, congratulated the students for their achievement and also thanked the parents and the Colleges’ staff for supporting these students throughout the training.
The National Youth Chefs Training Programme was created in a unique partnership between the National Department of Tourism and the South African Chefs Association, to address the urgent need for cooks and chefs in South Africa’s growing hospitality industry.
This pilot programme, which began in April 2011, enlisted 800 students in a platform that is designed to provide learners with both the theoretical and the practical
training.
