Police mop up illegal foreigners

Almost 70 foreigners were arrested in Lephalale, Witpoort and Steenbokpan during a clean-up operation held by police on Monday.
Foreigners later had a second opportunity to present their work and living permits at the police station.
Those who could show the necessary documents were released and the rest appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Illegal imigrants remain a big problem in Lephalale as many came here to find jobs when the local
construction and building industry boomed. But with the building industry in the doldrums, most of these foreigners are now unemployed with many resorting to crime.
