Complaint laid against municipality

The DA lodged a complaint with the green scorpions regarding the Lephalale municipality’s contravention of various environmental and water laws by pumping raw sewerage into the veld close to a residential area in Onverwacht.
Residents said they have complained to the municipality about workers pumping sewage onto a gravel road behind their homes, but to no avail. The DA visited the scene on Tuesday. There was a bad smell in the air and people were also worried about health issues that may arise from the raw sewage.
According to the municipality’s communications officer, Valerie Cilliers, the municipality appointed a ‘Honeysucker’ operator. The candidate is undergoing training. Cilliers said the municipality would look into a better temporary solution for the interim.
