The body of a man was found on the roadside in some bushes near the D’Nyala game reserve near Lephalale on Tuesday morning at about 07:00.
Warrant officer Frans Mokoena from the Lephalale police confirmed on Wednesday that the body was that of Tsepo Majabodu from Seleka - the driver of a minivan that was hijacked on Sunday night on the R33.
The minivan was transporting a group of women who was on route from Francistown, Botswana, to Durban for their monthly shopping trip. According to police reports, four suspects, dressed in police uniforms, stopped the vehicle and robbed the passengers of money and cell phones.
The victims were tied up and left next to the road, but the men kidnapped Majabodu and sped off. Police found the vehicle 200m down a gravel road exiting the R33.
After giving their statements, the women returned home to Botswana with help from a member of the local taxi association on Monday afternoon.
Police is investigating a case of car-jacking and subsequently murder. No arrests have been made.
