Onverwacht residents held hostage

A family was forced to watch in horror as an armed robber kissed and even licked their little boy (3) while holding them hostage. The family was overpowered in their Onverwacht home on Tuesday night at around 21:00.
The family was restrained for about an hour while the robbers, armed with knives and fire arms, ransacked their home, plundering rooms for cash and groceries. The family’s kitchenware was trashed while the robbers searched the cubboards.
After the robbers fled, the Buurtwag (Neighbourhood Watch) was contacted and assisted police with the search. One man was arrested, while two of his accomplices managed to evade the police.
Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena confirmed the robbery and said that the case was being investigated.
The Buurtwag’s Mariaan Wiid says that this incident is not only horrific, but has traumatised the family immensely as they are left with very little financial means after having their cash stolen.
