MOKOPANE - Northern News received two photographs in the last month of police vehicles parking in bays reserved for the disabled in Mokopane. When confronted, one of the police officers said that as a member of the police services they are allowed to park in the dedicated parking bays (according to an eye witness this particular officer returned minutes later with shopping bags in hand). Limpopo police spokesperson, Col. Ronel Otto, explained that police officials, as members of the public, must adhere to the rules and regulations of the Road Traffic Act with the exception of an emergency or life and death situation where officials must still respond with caution. "Police members are not allowed to park on disabled parking bays and an internal investigation will be done regarding this incident," she said and added that the SAPS would also intensify its internal education programme to inform and remind members that they are not allowed to park in bays reserved for disabled persons.
