The fight for control of the Mogalakwena Municipality continues as police today (6 Jan) brought in water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse crowds while forcibly removing workers and officials from the property.
Our reporter on the scene, Martie Pretorius reports that police intimidation is a very real threat and that tension is running high in especially Retief street, Mokopane. At least one woman was hit in the leg by a rubber bullet while another municipal official was hit in the face with a police shield.
At present, municipal manager, William Kekana, is said to be waiting for police back-up from Polokwane to carry out a court order to reclaim control of the municipality.
Businesses in the area voiced concerns that the continued action is impacting on on trade.
Meantime, service delivery to residents have come to a virtual standstill as politicians argue about who should be running the Mogalakwena Municipality - in the end is seams that rate payers are the only losers...
