MOKOPANE - Ivanplats reaffirmed their commitment to the people of Mogalakwena when the department of education (DoE)collaborated with the mining company to support the local Adult Education and Training (AET) Centers in the surrounding communities. Ivanplats and DoE signed a memorandum of understanding, wherein the company committed to train the facilitators of four Adult Education and Training (AET) centers and to provide support to these centers.
The centers are: Masodi High School in Masodi, AB Makapan in Sekgoboko, Chumana primary School in Tshamahansi and Matsibe High School in Malepetleke.
Signing the Memorandum on behalf of the DoE was Marwala Rasethabathe, AET specialist in Waterberg District while Sipho Manyeke, HR manager, represented Ivanplats.
To ensure that the facilitators are able to perform their tasks to the best of their abilities Ivanplats donated equipment and heavy duty stationery to the value of to R157 000 to the four AET centers. Rasethaba committed that the equipment will be monitored by the DoE and that they will ensure it is well maintained. He thanked the respective school principals for allowing the AET to take place within their schools and urged them to give them necessary support.
Ivanplats stated that they support and encourage programs developed in partnership with local communities and government department to assist local people to share the economic benefits of the Platreef Project.
Ivanplats made a commitment to adult basic education in its social and labour plan as part of community skills development programmes. The partnership with DoE supports this commitment and Manyeke added that it will continue to support the AET centers and that they are looking forward to a long and efficient partnership with the DoE.
