MOKOPANE - The Mogalakwena municipal council this week dismissed municipal manager, William Kekana, on account of 19 charges of misconduct. This follows the conclusion of disciplinary hearings by the municipality last Thursday.
Kekana backed another faction of former councillors under the leadership of former mayor, William Mabuela. The ANC's regional office has since stated that neither Mabuela nor the councillors that supported him had any legal standing as councillors as they had been suspended earlier for bringing the party into disrepute.
Some of the charges against Kekana include wasteful expenditure on salaries to the 23 expelled councilors, irregular expenditure and failure to act in the best interest of the municipality, refusal to table the Auditor General's report for the 2012/13 financial year, unauthorised use of municipal funds, breach of municipal finance management act no: 56 of 2003, failure to exercise management oversight-underspending on the conditional grants for the 2013/14 financial year and others.
The council has resolved that the position of the municipal manager be advertised with immediate effect.
Kekana will be instructed to hand in all municipal property in his possession within seven days.
